After Shigechiyo Izumi died at 120, Genyo was automatically crowned Japan's oldest man until he died in 2007. When Genyo turned 120 Years and 238 days, he surpassed Shigechiyo's record becoming the oldest living man in the world!!!
Mr. Misawa reigned for an impressive 21 Years, 4 Months, and 16 days as Japan's oldest man.
Genyo Misawa's cause of death has not been revealed till this day, hence he died of Natural Causes/Old Age.

Genyo Misawa/ 三沢玄洋 was a Police officer in Tokyo under his Chief, Kawaji Toshiyoshi.
Genyo Misawa's family has a long history of longevity:

(Genyo's Mother): Kasumi Misawa: (1846-1954) 108 yrs.
(Genyo's Son): Shinzo Misawa: (April 22, 1904 - July 26, 2008) Aged: 104 yrs.
(Genyo's Uncle): Iwata Yinsheigeru: (1824-1919) 95 yrs.
Genyo's certification was verified for "World's Oldest Man" on December 14/15, 1986, the same day Joe Thomas passed away. More to this, a research team GRG/Gerontology asked Misawa's family if Genyo wanted to be Validated as the World's Oldest Man, the family agreed, but Genyo rejected; saying that he didn't want to be referred to as an old man but wants to be referred to as "Genyo". The GRG then removed Genyo from the Guinness record and passed the title to Herman Smith Johannsen instead amidst the international community recognized Genyo as the oldest man.
